We Are Hiring A Transcriber!

Eye on Surveillance (EOS) is seeking a detail-oriented, part-time contractor to fulfill the role of City Council Meeting Transcriber. This position will remain open until filled.

About the position: As our City Council Meeting Transcriber, you will be responsible for creating accurate and comprehensive transcripts of city council meetings, which are posted here on the City Council’s Youtube page and typically last between 4.5 to 7 hours. Your work will directly contribute to the Sawt, a tool designed to increase transparency and accessibility of local government proceedings for New Orleanians.

About Sawt:

Developed by EOS, Sawt is an application that uses Large Language Models to:

1. Create searchable transcripts of all City Council meetings.

2. Allow users to search, through question and answer, these transcripts for specific information.

3. Display results in a user-friendly feed, enhancing public access to council discussions and decisions.

Your role is crucial in providing the high-quality transcripts that form the foundation of this important civic tool.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Transcribe a minimum of 2 city council meetings per month from live streams or recordings.

2. Identify and label speakers including council members, civil society representatives, governmental agency officials, and members of the public.

3. Capture all relevant details of the meetings, including motions, votes, and key discussion points.

4. Maintain consistent formatting and organization throughout the transcript to ensure optimal processing by Sawt's AI system.

Delivery and Pay:

- Archived Transcripts: $35/hour of work for archived transcripts that are delivered within one week of a commitment to transcribe (City Council Meetings held from January 1, 2024 - June 30, 2024). 

- Current Transcripts: $45/hour of work for transcripts that are delivered within 24 hours of a City Council meeting. The schedule can be found here.

About you:

6. You can work flexibly to meet both standard and expedited delivery deadlines.

It is appreciated, but not required, if you...

1. Have previous experience transcribing government meetings or legal proceedings.

2. Are familiar with the New Orleans City Council and its members.

3. Have knowledge of current local issues and topics frequently discussed in council meetings.

4. Have an interest in or understanding of AI and language processing technologies.

Technical Requirements:

1. Access to a computer with an internet connection.

2. Quality headphones for clear audio playback.

Contract Terms:

Pay varies based on the transcript type, as specified above, with a minimum commitment of 2 meetings per month.
